Highlights:
As most of the student body knows, the football season ended with tremendous success. The Gilbert High School football team coached by Graham Lundt had a season score of 10-0, which led to them making it to the state quarter-finals. Although we lost 12-42 in the final game against Newton the season was still tremendous. It really showed how much hard work could pay off in the end, especially with the support of our students who came to cheer on our team. According to Varsity Bound, the Gilbert football team is ranked second in the state in the class 4A, second only to Xavier, and tied with Newton, Pella, and Sergeant Bluff-Luton on a win-loss basis. Overall, an incredible season, and one of the best we’ve had in years. Following the season we had 5 Gilbert football players make All-State. Mason Griffin made All State Elite Team, Easton Vancleave, and Trent Wesselmann made All State First Team, and finally Kyler Grooters and Cameron Cantonwine made All State Second Team.
However, we also had a huge success with our Girls and Boys Cross Country Team. Our Varsity Boys cross country team coached by Aaron Thomas consists of seniors; Preston Stensland, Carson Squires, Landon Lucht, and Emric Ryan, Juniors; Logan Bleich, and Jacob Tallman, and Freshman; Zach Stevermer. Our Varsity boys got an amazing first place at the State Meet, making this the third consecutive win in class 3A at the State Cross Country meet. Logan Bleich, Jacob Tallman, and Carson Squires all qualified for Elite All-State, and all three were also named for the class 3A first team. Our Girl Varsity Cross Country team coached by Laura Kautman also qualified for state, and were able to place tenth overall for 3A. Our Girls Varsity Team consists of Seniors; Maggie Danilson, Kaitlyn Dear, Keira Andersen, and Grace Brosamle, Sophomore; Brooklyn Nelson, and Freshmen; Lexi Bleich and Clare Tallman. This overall was an amazing end to our 2025 cross country season.
Finally, with the end of the fall season, comes the start of the winter season. This includes Basketball, Wrestling, Winter Cheer, and Bowling. There looks to be a winning streak ahead for the girls basketball team, starting the season off strong with a close game against Urbandale( 51- 44). During halftime of this game, the dance team performed its first showcase of the winter season. It is also important to note that 3 Gilbert cheer leaders, Annabelle Wen, Paige Skeleton, and Malia Higgins, were invited to Cedar Falls to perform as part of the Iowa Honor Cheer Squad. The kick-off of the Girls’ Wrestling season started with a home meet against Carlisle, DCG, and Fort Dodge. Our Gilbert Girls Wrestling team performed very well with a win against DCG (48-36), and came in close second to Fort Dodge (40-36), and Carlisle (42-40). This winter is shaping up to be an outstanding season.
