The Last Word by Taylor Adams: a thriller

The Last Word by Taylor Adams is a fast paced mystery full of red herrings and plot twists. The main character Emma is house-sitting an old beachfront home on “Strand Beach” with her golden retriever Laika. Dealing with past trauma, she isolates herself, communicating only with her next door neighbor. One day, she reads a crappy horror novel recommended to her by her neighbor and leaves a harsh review on it. Surprisingly, the author responds. After going back and forth for a bit, the conversation ends and Emma thinks nothing of it. Eventually, she starts to feel like there is someone in the house with her. This book is thrilling, fast paced, and almost addictive. Once you get into it, it’s hard to put down.
