Teacher Spotlight: Priscilla Gammon

Mrs. Gammon has been teaching for 15 years. Although her favorite subject has always been history, she chose to teach English because she wasn’t sure how to make history engaging for students. She enjoys that English offers more creative opportunities, especially through reading and writing.

In her 15 years of teaching, one of her favorite assignments is the freshman play, where students write and perform their own original pieces. She says her favorite part of teaching is helping students finally understand something they’ve been struggling with and seeing that “aha” moment. A fun fact is that because of her enjoyment with organizing and bringing ideas together, if Mrs. Gammon wasn't a teacher, she would want to start her own event-planning business. 

Mrs. Gammon has also made an impact outside of the classroom as a club mentor at GHS. She supports both the book club and the newspaper club, helping students share their ideas and get more involved in the school community. In book club, she encourages thoughtful discussions and helps students explore different types of books. In newspaper club, she guides students in writing and improving their articles. Her support and encouragement make her not just a teacher, but also a mentor who helps students grow in their interests.

Ultimately, Mrs. Gammon’s passion for creativity and helping students grow makes her a memorable teacher. Whether it’s through writing, organizing ideas, or cultivating a thriving club, she works to make learning meaningful for her students. Her dedication shows that teaching is not just about lessons, but about making a lasting impact.
