From a small PE tournament to a growing school tradition, the GHS badminton club brings competition, connection, and fun to the court.

In the second installation of club spotlights, our second club being highlighted is: Key Club!

Name of Club: Badminton Club

Student Leader(s): Bia Dantes and Eloise Lepper

Teacher Sponsor: Scott Auderer

Years Running: 11 years

The badminton club gives students who enjoy the sport an opportunity to compete and have fun together. Coach Auderer shared that the club began in 2016 after being invited to a PE tournament at Roland Story. Since then, Gilbert has continued to host and expand the event, bringing together multiple schools each March for singles, doubles, and mixed doubles competition.

“We started in 2016 with a PE tournament, and it has grown into an annual event hosted here at Gilbert,” Coach Auderer said.

Over time, the tournament has included schools such as South Hamilton, PCM, Nevada, and Roland Story, though in some years, Gilbert has hosted its own in-school version when other teams were unable to attend. Beyond competition, the club also provides a social environment where students can connect, stay active, and enjoy the sport before and during school.
